Deep tables: so far, so good

PokerStars new 100-250BB tables are working out for me so far. Now, I'm not playing the fool, pimping my ride, or whatever you want to call it and buying in for the maximum, but I'm not always leaving when my stack gets up there either. I'm running way above EV, but that I'm winning besides that makes sense to me, and especially as a LAGtard, I don't really have to adjust to RIO considerations as much -- I'm used to scraping the odds/equity barrel back at the old 50-100BB setup as it was.

Oh, and I just noticed Stars has added Knockout tournaments now too; the lack of them was the only reason I even kept a small roll on FTP. I pwn at knockouts!

This downswing shall be avenged!

Bingo is serious bizness

Via Chuck Shepherd's News of the Weird
On Jan. 29, more than 200 Alabama state troopers were amassed at 4 a.m. for the purpose of raiding several illegal bingo parlors. The raids were eventually called off, but a University of Alabama professor estimated the staging cost to the budget-shriveled state at $130,000. Said a spokesman for Gov. Bob Riley, "No matter what it costs, the law must be enforced." [Birmingham News-AP, 1-29-10]
Called it off? Aw, man, this could have been epic!

Bitters shortage over

I'm used to not being able to get a Manhattan made with bitters at your typical Boston dive bar, to point where I've been tempted to go out with my own bottle in my pocket, but I had no idea things had gotten to the point where you couldn't even buy the ingredients for a Manhattan in Manhattan. Problem fixed now, apparently, thanks to some investigative journalism by fellow Mass. resident Rachel Maddow:

Weird casino dream

... all about the mechanics. The dream starts OK. I've taken the train from Boston to Rhode Island to the casino there (hey, a guy can dream right?) to play some Hold 'Em. It's late at night now and I've run up $800 into about 5K when the table breaks. So suddenly I'm alone in the poker area and I realize that I forgot to color up before the dealer left. But then I notice that the chip values and colors are all weird. My biggest chip is bright yellow and marked $2163; the next one is a brown plaid and worth $641. So I'm trying to add up my stack in my head and it's not going well at all. And since it's a dream, every time I go back to do the second count all the values of the chips have changed. The yellow one is now $2341 and the plaid one is like $619, etc. Finally I decide I should be able to just let the cage figure it all out, but now it occurs to me that, like an idiot, I don't even have a rack. So I just get over there in line with two big handfuls of a hundred all different colored and denominated chips piled together but the guy at the cage just isn't ready to deal with my mess at all, as if the casino's decisions about chip design are all somehow my fault. Finally I'm just pissed off about the whole situation so I head to the pit for some blackjack and slowly lose my whole roll à la Owning Mahoney. Disappointed, I slump off to the north bound train, where it turns out there's free slices of chocolate moose cake and a tall slinky blonde with no pants that wants to cuddle and that sort of cheers my spirits, but then, with the sight of the rising sun reflecting off of Boston's skyscrapers out of the train window, I wake up.

The weird thing is that I haven't even been to a casino in 8 years, so what the heck was that all about?
